HAMDEN, Conn. (WKRC) - A recent study found that despite his 2020 election loss, former President Donald Trump and his platform still hold favor with the majority of his party.

According to a national poll by Quinnipiac University, 66% of people who classified themselves as Republicans said they want to see Trump run for president in 2024, but about two-thirds of Americans in general said that they do not want to see him run again.

More than 85% of Republicans polled reported that they would prefer to see candidates who mostly agree with Trump run for office. However, nearly six in 10 Americans said they believe the Republican party is going in the wrong direction.

Responses to the direction of the Democratic party are mixed, with 46% believing it is moving in the wrong direction, and 44% saying it's moving in the wrong one.

A major point of contention in the 2020 election was debate over the legitimacy of President Joe Biden's win. According to the Quinnipiac poll, 66% of republicans believe his victory was not legitimate, and 64% of Americans overall believe it was.
